Dear company representatives, The survival of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa Indigenous people in Halmahera, Indonesia is at risk because nickel and cobalt mining for electric vehicle batteries is destroying their rainforest. Uncontacted peoples are among the most vulnerable peoples on the planet and have no immunity to outside diseases: without their forests they will not survive. Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) from Indigenous people is required under international law for all developments on their territories. Uncontacted people cannot give FPIC so therefore all mining on their territory is not only devastating for them but is illegal under international law. I call on you to take a stand by publicly committing to ensure that none of the minerals that your company uses ever come from the territories of uncontacted Indigenous people. I also ask you to use your influence to urge the mining companies, including Eramet, Tsingshan and ANTAM to stop mining on the territory of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa in Halmahera. Finally, please urge the government of Indonesia to establish a ‘no-go zone’ to protect the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa and their territory. I'm copying this message to companies involved in the supply of materials from Halmahera, the Indonesian authorities, and the French government, which partly owns Eramet. Yours sincerely, {user_data~First name} {user_data~Last name}
